Abstract. For us, what is most striking in New Media Literacies and Popular Culture Across Borders is the wide array of literacy and cultural practices with “intriguing juxtapositions” and “unusual connections” (as heralded by the editors) important to understanding an emerging field of Author: Korina Jocson.   The book presents research and thinking about new dynamic literacies, porous expertise, digital making/coding/remixing, curation, storying in digital media, open learning, the networked educator and a number of related topics; it further addresses and develops the notion of a 'third space literacies' in contexts for learning.

In such ways we can begin to relate the “newness” of new literacies to a distinctive kind of “ethos stuff” that is reaching a scale hitherto unprecedented, and turning the consumption of popular culture into active production: the production of consumption . Beyond this, of course, we can recognise diverse “new” literacies built.   Members of the research team at Project New Media Literacies discuss the social skills and cultural competencies needed to fully engage with today's participatory culture. Featuring Henry Jenkins.
